For Johan, BASECAMP was an opportunity to step out of his usual routine, spend time with other Christian men and be challenged by God’s Word. We asked Johan to reflect on his experience at BASECAMP and what stood out to him in 2026.

1. Please introduce yourself.

I’m Johan Peenz from Rouse Hill Anglican Church. I’m the proud father of 2 kids — 19 year old Jessica and 17 year old Daniel, and have been married for 27 years to Stephanie.

2. How many times have you attended BASECAMP and what made you want to attend this year?

I have attended more than 5 times over the years. I wanted to attend to reset my priorities around my life and my faith as well as make dedicated time for God.

3. How has BASECAMP encouraged your faith over the years?

Over the years, I have found BASECAMP an inspiration and encouragement on my faith journey. It is a bumpy road and it’s important to understand that we all go through up/downs in this walk, but that there are other men on the same journey, facing the same struggles and we can find hope and comfort in God’s Word.

“There are other men on the same journey, facing the same struggles and we can find hope and comfort in God’s Word.“

4. Can you share a takeaway from the talks or something that’s stuck with you even as you’ve gone home?

“Bent by Circumstances” — the willow vs oak analogy. To be resolute regardless of your circumstances and trust in God.

5. A highlight from the weekend?

It would be unfair to only have one, so I will take the liberty to mention three:
1. The praise and worship. How awesome is it for >1000 men to worship together?
2. The inspiration out of God’s Word from the talks.
3. The fellowship with our brothers. Be it over coffee, lunch, cooking dinner around a campfire or just getting to know each other better.

6. What would you say to someone who might be on the fence about coming?

Pick any of the points above. In essence, what do you have to lose? The return on investment of your time and money is well worth it in terms of what you personally get out of the weekend.

“In essence, what do you have to lose?“
