We are pleased to announce that Pastoral Counsellor, Jeremy Ward, will be joining the BASECAMP: Mountains platform this Saturday. Life, Love, Joy: Discover Where to Find It at OneLove

Nancy Guthrie to share how we can find life, love and joy at OneLove women’s conference.
Lifeless.

Loveless.

Joyless.

Empty.

How can something that doesn’t exist feel so heavy, and take up so much space in our souls? Isn’t it amazing how much pain can be caused by something that isn’t there?

While the world tells us that the empty places of our lives are our greatest problem, the Bible shows us that God doesn’t see it this way. In fact, Scripture is filled with stories of God transforming emptiness into opportunities.

At OneLovewomen’s conference, Author and International Speaker, Nancy Guthrie will show us the ways in which God’s people experienced emptiness—the insatiable cravings of the Israelities in the wilderness, the thirst in the Woman at the well, and the rich young ruler in search of the one thing that money can’t buy. By unpacking these well-known stories, Nancy will show us the ways God filled their emptiness with grace and kindness; presence and purpose.

Nancy’s three talks are titled:

1. The Life We’re Hungry For
2. The Love We’re Thirsty For
3. The Joy We’re Looking For

Don’t Miss Your Calling: 5 Days Left to Save $15 on Your Basecamp Ticket

Register for BASECAMP before 31 July and save $15 per ticket.
BASECAMP men’s conference is fast approaching, and standard rates will end at midnight, Sunday 31 July. Hosted by Katoomba Christian Convention, BASECAMP is an annual event for men who want to know God better. Since 1997, men of all generations and from across denominations have gathered at BASECAMP to hear God speak and renew their strength in Him.

For many men, BASECAMP reminds them that they are not alone in their faith, and to persevere, even if doing so goes against the grain of culture.

“Sitting in a room with all these men with the same purpose encourages me to take my godliness more seriously. Consider how often men come together to talk about important spiritual topics. And yet it’s something so important for Christians to do. I think KCC has really addressed this issue by organising BASECAMP.”

– Ivan, BASECAMP Delegate

“Often as guys we don’t open up about the struggles we face in life. At BASECAMP we have guys on stage talking to us, who are being real about it. We are a community of believers, and we need each other.”

- Spiro, BASECAMP Delegate

Each year at BASECAMP, God’s word is preached around a theme that is relevant to men from all walks of life. This year, guest speakers Malcolm Gill (Associate Minister, St Andrews Cathedral Sydney) and Jonathan Andrews (Clinical Psychologist, Heart in Mind) will speak on the topic “Called to be Sons: Living Under God Our Father, inviting men to consider their calling to Sonship and what it truly mans to be a man who is confident in his God-given identity and purpose.  Learn more from the promo video below:

200+ Youth Groups Equipped to Value Biblical Diversity at Onward Youth

Over 200 youth groups gathered for Onward Youth conference to learn what God has to say about diversity and how to stand firm against issues that challenge their faith.
Onward Youth 22 Delegates
This June, teenagers and youth leaders from over 200 churches across three states gathered for Onward Youth conference. Hosted by Katoomba Christian Convention, Onward Youth is a one-night apologetics conference, aimed at equipping young Christians to observe current culture through a gospel lens so that they are equipped to stand firm against issues that challenge their faith.

I appreciate that Onward engages the youth on relevant topics that youth leaders may not have the experience and expertise to advise on. It provides a good foundation for further discussions to be had. – Onward Youth 22 Delegate

Youth groups joined from across New South Wales, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory, with the largest groups represented by Frenchs Forest Anglican, Grace Chinese Christian Church, North Side Chinese Alliance Church, St Stephens Anglican Church Normanhurst and West Sydney Chinese Christian Church. Delegates unable to attend the conference in-person could choose the convenient option to tune in via livestream.

Out here in Albury, we really appreciate the livestream. Last year and this year, we built a mini youth group camp around the event. So, it’s a great addition to our program! – Onward Youth 22 Delegate

Onward Youth 22 Delegates
This year, Onward Youth tackled the topic of ‘diversity’, with Apologists Dave Jensen and Amy Orr-Ewing joining the platform to address the question: Doesn’t Christianity crush diversity? In his first talk, ‘Diversity was God’s Idea’, Dave gave a biblical overview of diversity, helping delegates to see diversity in God’s creative design of humanity. He stressed that in contrast, it is humans who hate diversity—as seen in our history with war and destruction—and yet God has wonderful plans to bring complete and perfect unity in diversity one day.
Apologist Dave Jensen speaks at Onward Youth
In his second talk, ‘How do we live as Christians in this diverse world?’, Dave shared practical tips for how young Christians can engage with people who are different to them today. Dave stressed that opposition to Christian faith is to be expected, and yet it is important for Christians to be known for their love and compassion.

I learnt exactly what I was hoping from Dave’s talk which was how to lovingly talk to others about Christianity by being curious and asking questions rather than getting defensive. – Onward Youth 22 Delegate

Amy Orr-Ewing speaks on ‘How Does the Bible Lift Up Women?’
In Amy Orr-Ewing’s talk, ‘How Does the Bible Lift Up Women?,’ Amy shared how the Bible ascribes women worth and equal image-bearing value. She shared how the Bible highlights women with Heroic, Deliverer, and ministry roles, and that Jesus had female disciples who he committed to teaching—something that was countercultural in the ancient world. While many horrific things have been done to women in the Bible, Amy stressed that these events are not condoned, but they are recorded in the Bible because God believes that the suffering of women is worthy of being remembered.
In addition to event access, delegates can also continue thinking about the topic of diversity with Onward Deep Dive—an exclusive resource designed to equip and empower youth groups well beyond the conference event. This year’s Onward Deep Dive also features the following resources:

Can God Really Work in Our Emptiness?

An invitation to witness God’s purposes and filling of emptiness at OneLove this August.
Depleted. Barren. Emptied.

Have you ever felt this way, where life feels choked out by thorns and thistles? Your innocence was once crushed by a broken heart, or you currently face the silence of an empty womb. You dread the futility of the 9-5 or your soul feels parched by Death’s sting. Your dreams have been robbed by regret or you have found yourself at the very top—alone and unsatisfied.

Futile. Aimless. Heavy burdened.

Is God ashamed of our emptiness? Can He really work when our tanks are emptied?

While the world may see emptiness as a great problem, the God of the Bible sees it as His greatest opportunity. This is because God does His best work despite our emptiness, and we see this in the Bible where He works powerfully, uniquely, and repeatedly in the lives of empty people.

Over three sessions at OneLove women’s conference this August, International speaker and author, Nancy Guthrie, will open the Scriptures to show us profound emptiness experienced in the insatiable cravings of the Israelites in the wilderness, the thirst in the Woman at the well, and the rich young ruler who came to Jesus in search of the one thing money could not buy. In each of these stories, we will witness God filling emptiness with His grace and kindness; presence and purpose.

If you are tired of filling your life with hopes and dreams that only leave you feeling parched and empty, join us at OneLove for a day of powerful preaching, refreshment, and fellowship. Learn how you can be “filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (Eph 3:19)a spiritual filling that promises to breathe hope into the empty places of your life.

Be Refilled At OneLove 2022!
It has been three years since KCC women have gathered in-person, so OneLove 22 will be a truly special day filled with encouragement, refreshment, and fellowship!

OneLove 22 will return on Saturday 20 August at the Sydney Town Hall. Early Bird tickets are now available until midnight, 17 July for both our in-person or livestreamed options. For more information visit our website: https://www.onelovewomen.com/

7 Books Helping Teens Embrace Biblical Diversity

7 books recommended by the Onward Youth 22 team and available for purchase from The Wandering Bookseller.
This year’s Onward Youth event tackled the big question: Doesn’t Christianity Crush Diversity? In a world that sees Christianity as restrictive and harmful, Onward Youth served to help teenagers consider what the Bible says about diversity, and how we are to interact with our neighbours who may live differently to us.

To help our delegates further explore what the Bible has to say about “Diversity”, we have partnered with The Wandering Bookseller to offer some of our top reads on the topic.
1. No Longer Strangers: Finding Belonging in a World of Alienation by Gregory Coles

In this book, Gregory Coles shares his journey of having a ‘mutated national identity’ whereby he felt ‘not-quite-American, not-quite-Indonesian’. Later, when he came out as a celibate gay Christian, he found that he didn’t fit into the church as easily as he used to. What does it mean to belong to others even when we can’t blend in with them? In this book, Gregory helps us see that if we give up on ‘belonging’ to follow Jesus, we’ll find ourselves belonging in a way that’s better, even if we feel the tension of wanting to fit in but being permanently out of place.

2. Jesus through the Eyes of Women by Rebecca McLaughlin

Jesus’s treatment of women was revolutionary. That’s why they flocked to him. They came to him for healing, for forgiveness, and for answers. So, what did women see in this first-century Jewish rabbi and what can we learn as we look through their eyes today? In ‘Jesus through the Eyes of Women’, Rebecca McLaughlin explores the life-changing accounts of women who met the Lord. By entering the stories of the named and unnamed women in the Gospels, this book gives readers a unique lens to see Jesus as these women did and marvel at how he loved them in return.

3. A New Freedom by Mike Snowdon

This book is like a training manual on how to approach life – a beginner’s guide to Christian ethics. It provides a framework for approaching any topic in a comprehensive and biblically faithful way, explaining why Jesus and His word help us live in freedom. It then gives practical examples of how to use this framework to think biblically by going through six key youth topics: study, money, suffering, violence, sex, and identity.

4. The Plausibility Problem: The Church and Same-sex Attraction by Ed Shaw

It’s all very well to say that the Bible is clear when it talks about homosexuality. But is it realistic? Isn’t it unrealistic and unfair to those who struggle with this issue? Doesn’t it condemn them to loneliness, a lack of fulfilment and the loss of basic human satisfactions like sex and marriage? Is what the church teaches a plausible way of life?

Ed Shaw experiences same-sex attraction, and yet he is committed to what the Bible says and what the church has always taught about marriage and sex. In this honest book, he shares his pain in dealing with these issues – but, at the same time, shows us that obedience to Jesus is ultimately the only way to experience life to the full.

5. Joni Eareckson Tada: Swimming Against the Tide

Joni Eareckson is a well-known Christian speaker and author from America but there was a day when she was a teenage girl in a bathing costume with nothing on her mind but boys, make up and her beloved horse, Tumbleweed. However, all that changed one morning when an innocent dive turned into a tragic accident. Joni’s story is a wonderful testimony to God’s grace and power in someone’s life. Healing may have been an amazing miracle that didn’t happen but Joni’s ongoing work with thousands of disabled people throughout the world is a miracle in itself.

6. The Air We Breathe by Glen Scrivener

Is Christianity history? Or is Christian history the deepest explanation of the modern world? Today, Christianity is seen as outdated, bigoted and responsible for many of society’s problems. But what if the Christian message is not the enemy of our modern Western values, but the very thing that makes sense of them? In this book, Glen Scrivener helps readers discover how the teachings of Jesus not only turned the ancient world upside down but continue to underpin the way we think of life, worth, and meaning. Far from being a relic from the past, the distinctive ideas of Christianity, such as freedom, kindness, progress and equality, are a crucial part of the air that we breathe.

7. 10 Questions Every Teen Should Ask (and Answer) about Christianity by Rebecca McLaughlin

How can we believe the Bible is true?
Why can’t we just agree that love is love?
Isn’t Christianity against diversity?

Backed by state-of-the-art research, personal stories, Harry Potter illustrations, and careful biblical study, this book doesn’t dodge tough questions. Instead, it invites teenagers to ask their hardest questions about Christianity and to find surprising, life-giving answers.

Jackie Hill Perry’s OneLove Talks Now Exclusively Available on KCC One

Jackie Hill Perry’s OneLove 21 talks are now exclusively available on the KCC One App in text, audio and video formats.
At OneLove women’s conference last year, international speaker, author, and Hip-Hop Artist, Jackie Hill Perry joined the KCC platform to speak on the topic ‘Made for More: Created for Holiness.’

In her opening talk ‘The Holiness of God Jackie invited delegates to describe God’s nature, and to consider why ‘holy’ is an unpopular word. She claimed that while many of us are comfortable with the fact that God is loving or kind, we are uncomfortable with God’s holiness and judgment—traits which are seemingly at odd with His good nature.
For this reason, Jackie turned to Isaiah 6:1-7 to show women the true meaning of holiness, why it is beautiful, and how it makes God a consistent and unfailing source of hope of humankind:

“If God is holy, that means He cannot sin. If God cannot sin, that means He cannot sin against you. If God cannot sin against you, doesn’t that make Him the most trustworthy being that exists?”

In her second talk, ‘The Unholiness of Idols’, Jackie challenged delegates to consider the unholiness of idolatry by comparing the characteristics of idols against those of a holy God. In doing so, she showed us the foolishness of putting our full trust in anyone or anything that is limited and destructible. Because God is holy, only He who cannot sin is worthy of our full devotion and worship:

“…it is good news that your idols can be destroyed. And that your God is indestructible.”

The OneLove 21 talks are now exclusively available on the KCC One App in text, audio, and video formats.

Sow For More: An Investment Into Future Generations Under Christ

Sowing into the ministry of KCC is an investment of a different kind. It is an investment that returns so much more, not only for the life of the ministry, but for you, your family, and for future generations under Christ.

The Way Things Were: Cassette Tapes and CD’s

40 years ago, KCC received helpful income from selling copies of the convention talks through cassette tapes and CD’s. Delegates could get them hot off the duplicator an hour after convention or posted out as gifts to friends and family.

Providing this service was a great way to extend the impact of the ministry and generate income for us, but when iTunes, free content and video-on-our-phones came along, that part of our ministry all but disappeared.

Looking Forward: KCC One Mobile App

So, in April 2020, we got to work and launched our new app, KCC One, our 21st century version of a “cassette tape ministry”. We purpose-built an app that could be accessed by smart phones, tablets, and notebooks, and filled it with over 1,800 convention talks and resources that you can watch, listen to, or read. KCC One also provides delegates with timely event information and seamless ‘Donation’ functions.

This is just the start.

We have so much more planned for this app, and hope to update it with even more features and content so that God’s word can be immediately available to more people, in more places, at more than just event times.

An Invitation to ‘Sow for More’ into the KCC App Library Fund

This June, we are inviting you to sow into the KCC One App Library Fund with a tax-deductible gift. By joining us in building KCC One, you will ensure that we: Continue to capture and create high-quality, biblical content for the library;  Launch and build features of the library that make the app as user-friendly and beneficial as possible (and that users have asked for!); Carry on sharing thousands of resources from our sermon library for free; and Launch a low monthly subscription plan offering the latest from conventions and brand-new, exclusive content created just for KCC One – all aimed at deepening your Christian life.  It is our prayer that in return, KCC will be able to share its resources with many more who need it, strengthening them to stand firm in their walk with God, and sustaining them with His Word for generations to come.
