From Despair to Hope: How God Changed Noah’s Life at KYCK

(Noah, right, with his best friend at KYCK)

For Noah, attending KYCK for the first-time last year was a life-changing experience. What began as doubt turned into a complete renewal of faith, transforming his view of the Bible and gave him hope and purpose.

1. Introduce yourself and how many KYCKs have you been to?

My name is Noah, I go to BXYouth and I’m in Year 11 this year. I attended my first year KYCK last year! I decided to go to KYCK when one of my school friends said they were going and asked me to come along.

2. What was your KYCK experience like?

It was an unforgettable experience that encouraged me to give my life to Jesus. The talks were well planned out and the music was amazing.

3. Tell us a KYCK highlight!

My favourite memory from KYCK would be the Saturday night talk. Listening to the love and passion to save even just one soul that night pushed me enough to trust in Jesus and love Him with my entire heart, mind and soul. As I walked out of the plaza, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief and safety because I had chosen to follow Jesus. I went and sat with a leader and felt like I had overcome my fears.

I felt an overwhelming sense of relief and safety because I had chosen to follow Jesus.

4. How has KYCK encouraged your faith?

KYCK didn’t only just encourage my faith, but completely changed it. Before going to KYCK I believed the Bible was just a silly story. I didn’t really listen to what the teachers had to say in the Bible studies class in school. But once I went to KYCK, my view was completely renewed, I came to trust in Jesus and will never go back!

5. Why would you recommend KYCK to others?

I would recommend KYCK to others for them to strengthen their faith, or even come to Jesus as I did. I believe everyone deserves a chance to hear the Word of God, and one of the best and most fun ways to do that is KYCK!

6. How has being a Christian changed your life?

Before I became a Christian I didn’t have much hope for myself or the world. However, after coming to God, I had a chance to lay my worries down with Him, and He took them and gave me hope. Coming to faith is the most amazing and important thing I have done in my life, and I have so much love for God that He chose to save everyone.

Why Every Young Christian Should Experience KYCK: Estelle’s Story

KYCK has been a cornerstone of Estelle’s spiritual journey for the past five years. In this story, she reflects on the highlights from KYCK24, what impacted them most, and why they believe KYCK is something that every young Christian should experience.

1. Introduce yourself and how many KYCKs have you been to?

My name is Estelle and I’m in Year 12. I attend Wilton Anglican Youth. I’ve been to KYCKs for 5 years so far (including KYCK online!)

2. Tell us a KYCK highlight!

KYCK24 was so much fun, I had a blast! A weekend away to get to know those in my youth group better, to build our relationships with one another and spur each other on in Christ. The music was amazing as always, I loved how much everyone got into it, especially with the songs “Praise” and “Take You at Your Word” which I have had on non-stop repeat since. The talks really encouraged me and others in my youth group to think about our identity in Christ. Seeing so many of my friends commit themselves to Christ on Saturday night was very emotional. God’s presence in that shed was definitely felt and it was incredible.

3. How has KYCK encouraged your faith?

The talks at KYCK are always so practical, easy to make links to and apply to my life. Seeing so many Christians in one space is amazing. It encourages me in my faith journey and serves as a reminder that we’re not alone, that we have Christian brothers and sisters from all over going through life with us too.

4. Why would you recommend KYCK to others?

KYCK is honestly the highlight of my year. Time away with your brothers and sisters in Christ is a great way to build yourself and each other up in faith and get to know each other better. The talks, the games, the music, friendship and God… what’s not to love? The atmosphere is so great it’s hard to describe, you have to go to understand it. If you’re wondering whether to go or not, give it a try and I promise you, you won’t want to go back!

5. How has being a Christian changed your life?

Christianity changes the way I view things in my day-to-day life. Knowing that I have a God-given purpose and that I’m living my life for Jesus makes me want to do everything to the best of my ability. It also helps me gain a better perspective on what I value most in my life.

“A Turning Point in My Faith”: Reuben’s KYCK Story

Over the years, countless stories have emerged of young people encountering God in profound ways, recommitting their lives to Him, and building friendships that last a lifetime. In this story, we hear from Reuben as he reflects on his journey with KYCK—from his first experience as a high school student to their current role as a leader (St Michael’s Wollongong) and volunteer. Reuben’s story reminds us of the power of God’s Word, the strength found in Christian community, and the hope we have in Jesus.

1. How many KYCKs have you been to?

I’ve attended KYCK since 2019! I was in Year 11 at the time. I believe the theme was “Believe. Love. Remain” on John.

2. Can you share what your KYCK experience was like?

It was one of the turning points of my Christian faith. On Saturday night, I made the step to refocus my faith and recommit to God. God worked so powerfully through my youth group at the time. It was such a wonderful experience seeing so many Christians singing along and listening to God’s Word.

3. Tell us a KYCK highlight!

Even though KYCK19 was such a huge part of my turnaround in the faith, it isn’t the biggest highlight. The biggest highlight for me was last year (2024). This was a challenging time due to an unexpected passing of a friend. Despite this, God worked so powerfully during my time at KYCK. It was so encouraging seeing how God changed so many lives of those around me – to those who I was leading and when I was volunteering.

4. How has KYCK encouraged your faith?

KYCK is an amazing starting ground in jumping into the Bible and learning more about God. I honestly learnt so much when I was in school, and that learning has continued even through leading and volunteering. KYCK every year, gives me a reason to keep going, to keep holding steadfast in my walk with Christ.

5. Why would you recommend KYCK to others?

KYCK is such an encouraging experience. It is equally as hard-hitting, I know that God can work in every situation. I know that it could be the seed for my friend who may not be a Christian yet. I know that it is a place for Christians who strayed away, to get a taste again of what and who Christians are.

We can trust in God in these circumstances because he softens the hearts of many and He is always in control. We can have confidence in this. I would recommend KYCK to others to show them the abundant love of Jesus Christ and no matter what happens. He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore.

6. How has being a Christian changed your life?

Being a Christian has changed the way that I view life and the way that I treat others. Christ is the reason why I can find hope in the bad times even when everything is against it. The assurance that I have in Christ, that we will see our brothers and sisters in Christ again, why wouldn’t I want to show others this love too?

“I Regret Not Going in Previous Years”: Adam’s KYCK Testimony

In this interview, Adam from Coffs Harbour Presbyterian Church shares how he met Jesus at his lowest point and how attending KYCK 23 challenged him to live like Jesus and to be proactive with his faith. He also shares why youth should “get off the fence” and just make the decision to go to KYCK this year!

1. How many KYCKs have you been to and what was your favourite part?

KYCK 23 was my first KYCK! Unfortunately, it was also my last due to my age, and I regret not going in previous years! My favourite part about KYCK was the ability to praise, connect with and learn about Christ, surrounded by thousands of people – an incredibly encouraging experience!

2. How did KYCK23 challenge you in your faith?

KYCK 23 has challenged me to not only live like Jesus, but to actively seek and read His word in the Bible, encourage others in reading His word and to back Jesus up when I’m being questioned. You just never know when He’ll enter someone’s life through you!

3. Tell us how you became a Christian!

I met Jesus when I was at my lowest. 2020 was a tough year for so many, and I was struggling with depression following the death of my grandfather and the isolation brought on by COVID. God used that time to build me back up, create a proper, almost unbreakable connection with Him and surrounded me with an amazing group of friends.

4. How has meeting Jesus changed your life?

Meeting Jesus has provided me with an incredibly freeing feeling, knowing that there will always be someone I can rely on who’ll ride the waves of life with me in a life that He prepared for me is amazing.

5. What would you say to someone on the fence about attending KYCK?

I was once on the fence too, and for way too long. Just go! It’s the most amazing experience and you absolutely won’t regret it. You’ll meet new people, make new friends and may well find yourself connecting with Christ on a whole new level!

Meet KYCK 22 Graduate: Stephanie

In this interview, Stephanie from Crossroads Christian Church shares how attending KYCK conference transformed her life and empowered her faith. She also shares why teenagers should prioritise attending KYCK in their formative high-school years.

KYCK 22 Graduate: Stephanie
  1. How many KYCKs have you attended?

I attended KYCK from 2017 to 2022, so for all my high school years except for when it was canceled for COVID.

  1. What was a highlight from KYCK?

My favourite highlight from KYCK were the small group discussions my year group had in 2022. We were all more mature and able to have deep conversations with each other about Jesus that were very interesting.

  1. How did KYCK encourage your faith?

KYCK encouraged me in my faith to go out into the world and spread all my newfound knowledge I had learned with other Christians as well as unbelievers.

  1. Why would you recommend KYCK to others?

I would recommend KYCK to others because of the overwhelming feeling you get when you are with so many people your age that have the same love for Jesus. It’s very euphoric and emotional, an experience you don’t often get the chance to take part in regularly.

  1. How has being a Christian changed your life?

Being a Christian has turned my life on its head. In a generation that is very self-focused, you don’t often meet people who aren’t all about the “self-love” lifestyle. Knowing that I don’t deserve to be loved, and that I don’t deserve to be saved, but Jesus saves us because he loves us so much, is amazing! I now judge myself and others less because that is God’s job—a truth which gives me so much peace, and one that I hope everyone in the world to have.
